Boil some sugar in water and allow it to cool. Now gradually pour this mixture into a bowl and add a few drops of lemon juice and smear this lemon sugar mixture with a smooth cotton ball a couple of times on the henna once it has dried. This solution will moist the henna and protect it from cracking and it will stay long on skin. The sugar keeps the mehndi in contact with the skin for deeper penetration, while the lemon juice acts as a catalyst for dye release and deep penetration of colour. As soon as you feel mehandi drying up on your hands or legs, apply the mixture of lemon juice and sugar so that the henna paste remains intact and mehandi can be kept for longer period. Be careful not to over use this mixture as it will pull back the color. One can also use spray bottle filled with this lemon sugar juice to spritz on dried henna designs.

3. Wrapping up the design:

Many also suggest wrapping the henna design with a tape as it gives a rich and darker colour. Be cautious!! Not to spoil the henna design. It is best you ask the expert to do so, or have somebody else do it in her supervision. You can use medical paper tape to gently wrap up the mehndi.

When fumes starts coming from the pan, place your hands above the pan carefully. Let the fumes dry up the sugar and lemon mixture. And let your skin can absorb the clove oil mixed smoke. This helps the mehndi get darker as it dries. Now leave this henna until dusk or scrape off the henna with a blunt knife.
